Sweet Yoyo

The moment I decided to tell this story, vulnerability crept in. All the questions that ran through my head when I was first diagnosed as a child came flooding back: What will people think? Should I even tell people? Will they understand? Are there others out there like me? I felt the same fear I did on day one. That's when I knew this story had to be told.

There are no words for the isolation you feel when you're diagnosed with a disease. My response was cinema. It became my way of coping—not to escape the realities of living with diabetes, but to confront the world with empathy. Film helped me understand I wasn't alone.

In many ways, Sweet Yoyo is my attempt at giving back to cinema—to find those who feel like outsiders and bring them in, even if only for a short time.
